I was looking at Rootsweb.com for another relative and found you site. My great-aunt, Dahlia Amy Calaway James told me she was interested in learning about the Calaway family but was afraid "she might hit a stump" or find something she would not want to hear. I decided then, to add the Calaway family to my extensive family. I have not been disappointed yet. I have been researching Martin Kinney Calaway family for about 15 years. It has been slow since most of the people have died. I give my information to anyone who wants it.
I've enjoyed browsing your website. I have just begun developing an interest in the Callaway family history.
I was told that this is the only place that has an account of my family online. My father was William Boyd Nehr, son of Beno Christian Nehr and Angeline Henery Nehr. He has been gone 17 years now.
I am descended from the Peter Callaway line. My father is James P. Fry III of Houston. My Grandfather James P. Fry Jr. of Houston was the son of James P. Fry Sr. and Susie Cornelius Callaway. I have visited you before looking for answers on who my Ggrandfathers parents were. I found out that they were James and Dorcas (Jones Cook) Calloway. Although he is listed as Davis Calloway in the Cenus in I believe 1870. If anyone knows anything about him or his wife please email me They lived in Liberty Twp. Wabash County, Indiana. I am find the their last name spelled the follwing different ways: Calloway, Caloway, Callaway and Calaway. I'm not sure which is correct. If anyone knows anything please contact me. Thanks....
My late grandma was a Bessie Gertrude Gregory nee Kelway (1876-1971) brn/raised in Falmouth, Cornwall. Her parents were a John Shenton Kelway (1845 -1903) & Jane Kelway (nee Baylis) (1843- ?) She had a sister Mable Jane who married a Tregunna. Am endeavouring to trace from what Kelway family this branch comes from as there were a number of Kelway families living in Falmouth in the 19th cent.. Could theses Kelways have originally come from Devon, Somerset or Dorset as the name is certainly not Cornish. Can any member assist me. in this regard. As a matter of interest the first time the surname Shenton (again we don't know where the Shenton name comes from) is linked to a Kelway is through the marriage of a Henry Kelway to a Mary Clist Shenton, 29th October 1780 in Falmouth. Am I right that there are villages near Exeter Devon known as Clyst something____?? Many passed & present Gregorys & Tregunnas family members have been christened with the name of Kelway or Shenton. Perhaps you can put me in touch with other Kelways who may be researching the Cornish (Falmouth Lines). Thanks Geraint Shenton Gregory.
I noted with great interest photos of my relative William Frankllin (Jack) Callaway posted on the website. A marker is in the family plot in Clinton, MO (I visited marker in Englewood Cemetary in Henry County, MO as a child), although Jack is burried in Arlington. I am trying to trace my Callaway roots but have hit a dead end at my Great Grandfather J.C. Callaway, former Sheriff of Henry County, MO. My grandmother was Katherine Lee Calloway of Clinto, Mo. Can someone point me in the right direction?
My ancestor is William E. Cleveland found in Murray County Georgia census 1850 pg. 274. Who is the Callaway age 63 found in the household?? Thanks for any info!

Hi, I'm not sure if you know about this Callaway Family I have found listed in a book I have. James Callaway and his wife Sarah (nee Clotworthy). James is listed as a Salt Officer. They had 7 children between 1801-1817. 5 girls and 2 boys. They lived at Under Shore near Lymington. If any require further information please email me. Willing to send details to anyone interested. I hope this helps with your research into the Callaway surname.
I am related through Peter Callaway's line, on both my paternal grandfather's and grandmother's sides (they were 4th cousins through the Callaway family in Georgia). My paternal great-grandmother was Sarah Ida Callaway, daughter of William Reeves Callaway and Rhoda Ann Cheney. She married Jabez Mercer Brittain. My grandmother had Callaways on both her father's side and her mother's side. He was named Kingman Porter Moore and she was Sarah Martha Milner. They were 2nd cousins, sharing Joshua Callaway, Jr., as their great-grandfather. I think the CFA site is great, and a great resource for family researchers. I will probably become a member soon. I wish all my ancestral lines had such a good repository of family history.
I am just starting to research the Callaway family. I want to leave my kids info on their heritage. All I really know now is that my husbands grandfather was William Owen Callaway from Jacksboro, TX
I am a descendant of Thomas Callaway who was granted 766 acres by a duke in England in 1785. I am eleventh generation from him. My great grandfather founded Callaway Gardens in Georgia and my grandfathers first cousin founded both Callaway Golf and Wine. Proud to be a Callaway and would like to know if I'm related to the Callaway's on this site.
I a related to Michael Keplinger. I would like to confirm the Callaway relationship with Michael Keplinger. I have a census note that a Frances Callaway lived with a Eudora Keplinger in McLean County Kentucky. Is Isabel Calloway b. abt 1843 living in McLean Co. Ky in the house hold of Eudora Caplinger (Keplinger) related to Frances H. Calloway? Eudora was the sister of Michael Keplinger - Spouse of Frances.

Hi just introducing myself !!
I am the great, great granddaughter of Henry Harris and Sarah Grylls Kellaway. I've tried doing research on this family for a few years and had hit a stone wall until far distant people came to my aid and directed me on the right path. Thanks to them I've found a lot more things that at first I was very unsure of, now I've got a lot of reading to do. I didn't know the family was so diversified. It's nice to know the family has a background and not something fabricated by just hearsay.
I just saw the info. on Samuel J. Calloway 1877-1927 Miami policeman , in the February 2005 newsletter. His Father George W. Callaway ca. 1841-1900/10 was my ggg uncle. George W. Callaway's father WAS a Jonathan Callaway but NOT the the Jonathan you listed. George's father was born ca. 1813/14 in Delaware and moved to Dorchester Co. ca. 1840 where the family lived through the 1880 census. My Jonathan was married twice-1st to Winnifed Hasting-1831 in Sussex Co. De. and 2ND to SARAH a. Drain-1837 also in Sussex Co. De. I have been searching for many years for my Jonathan's father. The latest and so far most plausible father ,is an Edward Calloway ca. 1784-1830/40 of Little Creek Hundred-Sussex Co. De. This Edward had a daughter Sarah who married Collins Vinson/Vincent in 1827 in Sussex Co. This Sarah appears to have been my Jonathan's Sister. I believe Edward is From the Peter, John, Isaac, Edward line I would love any input on this line. Thanks -Mark J. McCloskey-Germantown, Md. P.S. The Jonathan you listed married Mary T. Carter in Kent Co. De. in 1848.He was born in 1823 and had just one son- a William H. Callaway (NOT my William H. CA. 1836-1912) born in 1853. My Line is Myra Columbia Callaway McCloskey 1902-1965 Emanuel Henry Callaway 1861-1926 William H. Callaway ca. 1836-1912 Jonathan Callaway ca. 1813/4-After 1880. Edward Callaway ca. 1784-1830/40 ?????

Hi. I think my husband's family is a Calloway descendent. His father (William Dunbar Holder, Jr.) spoke of the Boone/Calloway kidnapping & my sister-in-law has a painting of the event in her home. Unfortunately my father-in-law has lost a lot of his memory but there was Frances Holder, Benjamin Holder & Eugene Holder somewhere in the past. I want to help our daughter with a family project & wondered if you have any info. on where we fit in. Thanks so much! Susan Holder
I was wondering about the Edward Callaway born 1924 in Baxter co, Ar and died 1992 in McDonald county. My Grandfather Thomas Edward Callaway (son of Walter Allen Callaway) was born April 27, 1906 ( I think) in Baxter co. Ar. and died in 1987 in McDonald county Mo. McDonald is a small county and was wondering if there was another Edward Callaway or a mix up somewhere. My Grandmother still lives in McDonald co. and so do One of my aunt and cousins.

Mary Calloway m. Henry Pitt(s) b. 1630 in England and was m. 1668, and had a son Charles Pitts b. 1671 and 1677 in Isle of Wight Cty, Va., and that Charles m. Sarah Anne Hardy b. 1680 Isle of Wight Cty, Va. m. 1699 Isle of Wight Cy, Va., had Joseph b. 1700 in Surry Co. Va., Lucy, Milea, Levi, Charles, Jeremiah and Abner Pitts., and that Joseph m. Nancy Slaughter b. abt 1700 who had Charles, Henry b. 1 Nov 1725 Isle of Wight Cty, Va., Daniel, Caleb, and William Pitts. Henry b. 1 Nov 1725 m. Hannah Collier...Mrs. Mehringer says in her Putnam book that Joseph Pitts married Ann Gray. She also says Hannah Pitts, wife of Henry I, was Hannah Collier. This is just a bit of background in my search for more data on CALLOWAY. I could not locate anything about this on your site - just hope someone will be able to help me so I can have more on Sarah Mary Calloway, or that is my understanding of her full name, then I could like to submit data to your site unless it is acceptable to submit what I have. .
Saw several postings relative Rev. Joseph "J.P." Calloway and wondered who his father was. I am researching Pitt/Pitts and the names seen are those used in my Pitts lines, such as, Penelope, Joseph, and I am also searching re Sarah Mary Calloway who married c 1668 Henry Pitt. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who might be know of a connection. Thank you.
I was named after Zion Flannery's daughter, Rebecca Jane. She was my great-great-grandmother.
I am trying to find out information on my great great grandfather, James D. Callaway, husband to Lucinda Belle Banks. They both are buried in Jasper, Alabama where they came to from Georgia (1870 Census of Fayette Co., Ga.). James D. Callaway born 18 Feb. 1833 and died 25 July 1900. I'm interested in his lineage and I would REALLY appreciate any information. Thanks and I hope to hear soon!
I have traced my Callaway ancestors to Lyme Regis, Dorset, England. My Callaway ancestor was Frances Sarah Callaway, born Lyme Regis, Dorset, 23 Feb 1820. She was my paternal 2nd great grandmother. Her parents were William and Frances (possibly Marsh or Adams) Callaway. Wm. was born at Lyme Regis, Dorset (abt.1797) and Frances, at Walcot, Bath, Somerset. (abt. 1794) She had siblings who were born at Walcot, Bath, Somerset: Elizabeth , Bapt. June 1825, Martha, born June 1828, William, born Sept 1831. Also listed in the 1851 census were: Flora, brn abt. 1835, and John Thomas, brn abt. 1837. (I think they were born at Lyme Regis). My Frances Sarah Callaway married John E. Tencate. They went between Lyme Regis and Guernsey, Channel Islands, several times before immigrating to Phoenixville, Chester County, Pennsylvania in 1854. One of their sons, John E., Jr. was my great grandfather. I have found that William (born abt. 1797) may have had siblings: Sara (bapt. 1785), John (bapt. 1792), and Thomas (bapt. 1792) (also possibly Martha, Edward and Susan who were born somewhere else). – all of Lyme Regis. These children were recorded as having parents named John and Martha Kelway. I am finding that Sara may have married James Gill in 1808 and had daughters, Mary (b 1806) and Charlotte Gill Broom (b.1826). Thomas married Ann Legg. I would really like to find out more about John and Martha Kelway. If you have a connection to this family I would appreciate your correspondence. Thank you, Carol Battin Washington, WV USA
I just want to say that I'm glad that there is a page dedicated to our family name. Right now, I'm carrying our family name across the country of Afghanistan in the war on terrorism, and my brother, Ricky, carried the name across Iraq during the assault on the city of Fallujah. We are very proud of our family name and will bring it nothing less than honor. Please remember us in your prayers for what we are doing for our family, our country, and our world.
