Gosh, I'm the second Curtis Callaway to sign the guestbook...and i thought I had an orginal name! And to Brendan, if you're reading this, feel free to email me, though I don't think I'm the one you're seeking out. Good to know there's a bunch of interesting Callaways out there.
I am currently writing the history of The First Baptist Church of Weogufka. Would appreciate any contributions the Callaways might have by way of that history--photographs, clippings, memories are always helpful.
This is just a note to let you know that my email address has changed. I really enjoy the newsletters you send me. Very interesting stories and history. Hope to visit the Plantation real soon. I just found out that a friend of mine has cousins in the Callaway family and I am a cousin to her cousins!!!! Unfortunately her Aunt Mattie Scott Callaway passed away a few weeks ago and I was not aware of this until after the fact. My deepest sympathy to the family. Keep up the newsletter, it is wonderful!!! Your cousin, Marilyn Chenoweth Gorham
My mom is a past member and has shared the newsletters with me for years. I really enjoy going through all the information.
David Arnold Callaway was my 3x gr grandfather. He was considered to be a "gypsy" type person and was on the move quite often. Upon reading your material, I don't see any reference to him at all. He was the son of Isaac Callaway and was I believe only 1 of 2 Callaways who changed the spelling of their name to reflect Calloway, spelled with the "o" instead of "a". If any information is requested about him and his descendants, please contact me.
I am a current member of Weogufka First Baptist Church in Weogufka, AL and am researching the Hughes Family. My husband is W. Allan Hughes s/o W. Allen Hughes s/o Daniel Franklin Hughes s/o of Chesley Hughes s/o Benjamin Hughes.
My grandfather was Robert Moody Callaway of Jackson, Mississippi.
Augusta Homer "A. H." Callaway was my Great GrandFather. I have the names of most of the people in the picture posted as his family. My GrandFather, and GrandMother (Autry Belle Callaway) are in the picture. I am trying to find information on Augusta Homer's ancestors. A. H. as a lot of people new him died in the pulpit in Henderson Co., TX. and I have a copy of the obituary. I am looking forward to meeting kinfolks.
An interesting web site for a great family. My mother is Enid A Callaway, grandfather is John Arnold Callaway born near Houston Tx then came to Oklahoma and homestead near Waynoka, OK on the Cimmaron River.
My maternal grandmother was Iva Belle Callaway, born in Ohio. Married in Ohio. Parents were Calvin Callaway and Lucinda Bailey. Born in Oh. Her husband was Thomas Bunner, children John Bunner, Bessie Bunner, grandchildren Patricia Joan Bunner, Patricia Ann Bunner. I live in Billings Mt, and Patricia lives in Philadelphia, Ms. Does anyone know anything about this family? If so would you please email me at heavenlydays1 at earthlink.net. I am looking for any info I can get.
Dear Donna, I just got your email, and I think you're on to something in my Callaway line. We are talking Calvin Callaway, who's father was Henry Callaway, But we have no info on Henry of Ross County. Do you have anything on Iva Belle Callaway? Her father was Henry. Her mother was Lucinda Bailey They were in Green Co Oh. She died in 1919 in Newport. Oh. Her son was my dad John Bunner who has been missing since 1967. He was born and raised in London, Oh. I also found a sister I never knew I had until 3 months ago. She is also a Callaway. Granddaughter of Iva Belle. She lives in Philadelphia, Ms. We have investigators searching for John. So if you have any info on Iva Belle I would really appreciate it. Her sisters were as follows: Essie Mae, Ruth, Lela, Lucy one brother William Callaway. All from Ohio. Her little sister Lucy was killed by lightening. Oh one more sister Mary. Lucy was at Mary's house and during a storm she went out to cut wood and Mary yelled at her she better get back inside or she could get struck and she laughed and said Oh no one ever gets killed by lightening and then it happened. They found her on the ground and the hog had chewed part of her arm off. Such a tragedy. That was in 1917, she was 16 yrs old. 2 yrs later my grandmother died of pneumonia. John was only 5 yrs old. But its so hard to find anything on him. Maybe someone might know something about missing Callaways. His birthdate is 5/20/14 or 5/15/15. Born in London, Ohio. Father was Thomas Bunner. There is a book being written by a Bunner cousin who is the director of Nasa and beings 2 Callaway sisters married two Bunner brothers, they will be in the book. His name is Alan Bunner. His email address is abunner at surfbest.net. If anyone can add anything please contact him. He has been writing this book for 40 yrs. Not published yet. Also wanted to know if there is a Callaway book being written. My grandmother was only 34 when she died in Danville Ohio. Their home was in Newport, Ohio. Well thanks for your response. How much does the letter cost? If it is free I would love to get it. How much to become a member? Again, thank you Patricia Hillis
It was exciting to see photos of some of my ancestors here. I have copies of the originals in my possession thanks to my mother's work on our family history.

Searching for my father, John Bunner. Father -Thomas Bunner. Mother - Iva Bell Calloway. Born - London, Ohio in May 1914 or 1915
I just found this by accident! I don't know which line (if any) I'm descended from, but my grandmother was a Callaway (New Brunswick, Middlesex Cty, NJ), and her father (William, b. 1879) and grandfather (George, b. ~1844) were born in NJ. Her ggrandfather was apparently Levan Callaway, born in Del. around 1802/03. Is Levan one of "yours"?
I am the daughter of Autry Boyd Callaway, son of Charlie Callaway from Henry County, Tennessee. My father was one of nine children, all of whom have passed away. I'd love to get in touch with some of my cousins and thought perhaps this would be a good way to find them.
Thanks for all the family info. Most of it matches what I already have so it confirms the accuracy of my info. I am stuck at immigrations. I need to connect across the sea. If any one could help me, I would appreciate. My line is through Fannie Lula Callaway, William Monroe Callaway, Henry Harrison Callaway, Jonathon Callaway, William Jr., William Sr., and then Peter Callaway (married to Elizabeth Johnson). Any help would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!
I'm waiting in line to see a counselor at my college and looked up my last name. My father Omar is really big in researching the Callaway name.
Interested in chating with person interested in the Callaway/Shewmake genology.
Really enjoyed the reading here. Members of my family use both spellings --Calloway and Callaway but I noticed the entries here for the southern U.S. were only Callaway. Has the spelling been changed when making entries?
I HAVE SOME INFORMATION THAT COULD BE ADDED TO THIS SITE. MY GRANDFATHER WAS IVA RAYMOND CALLAWAY. GREAT GRANDFATHER JOHN WILLIAM CALLAWAY. IVA HAD 3 SONS. RAYMOND HOWARD CALLAWAY, JAMES KENNETH CALLAWAY AND MY FATHER CALVIN ALLEN CALLAWAY. ALL 3 ARE DECEASED NOW. MY DAD DROWNED IN 1996. JAMES HAD A BRAIN TUMOR AND HOWARD WAS IN AN AUTO ACCIDENT AND NEVER WENT TO THE HOSPITAL AND DIED. I HAVE MORE. THIS HAS ALL BEEN SO INTERESTING. I'M SURE MY MOTHER HAS A LOT OF PICTURES THAT COULD BE ADDED. HER NAME IS LEONA CALLAWAY SHE TURNED 74 IN AUGUST.
I am stuck and cannot find any information beyond my great grandfather Jess Arthur Calloway (1851-1936) who married Malinda Hightower (1861-1934). They may have been from Georgia or Missouri. They had 4 sons: Jesse, Tom, Frank, Edward and one daughter Lou. Jesse was my grandfather and married Dona Belle Bethel in Oklahoma. They had 5 sons: Andy, Jesse Jr., Albert, Gene and William. All of them served in WWII and all returned uninjured. Does anyone have information about this lineage? I've looked everywhere possible! Thanks!
This site is very informative. I enjoyed the surname history, it made me want to learn more. Great work!
Wonderful website. Hope to read additional info. in the future. We are conducting extensive research into our genealogy at this time. Thanks!
Thdere is a new programme being put out by the BBC called "Who do you think you are" which gave a website with some links. Through this I came across the research you have done. I took on from my grandfather (the last owner of Kelway's Nursuries in Langport) a large amount of research he and his half brother Ian did in the 1930s. Ian lived to 101, and I met him once. I have my own direct link back to Godfrey Kelway, and am trying to find who his parents were to go bnack further. I also have copies of the old will mentioned in your correspondence of about 1462. (I am nogt able to access thei information as I want to make contact with you. Our coat of arms is the one set out somewhere in your research, and our crest is a cock rampant on a twisted bar. I found from the Somerset archives that a de Kelway came over from France, and found in another book that we come from an area just outside Paris, near the River Caille. One of the Kelway women married a Cornishman (Tregonel?), and Launceston church was built in memory of their son whjo was scalded to death as a baby. His coat of arms and the Kelway coat of arms are carved in the granite all over the tower. The house of Athelhampton also has stained glass windows of the Kelway coat of arms and another Kelway woman married well! Like Elizabeth Kelway. The fear I have is that some of the records were lost in the blitz of Bristol in WW2. I made contact with the Pembrokeshire Kelways, who were an offshoot of the Somerset branch, with the same crest, but on a naval crown, since they were the harbourmasters of Milford Haven etc. It is late at night, and my typing is deteriorating. I hope we can make m,ore contact, and if anyone knows anything about Godfrey, I'd love to know
I am looking for the parents of John Junior Callaway . He died in Coweta County Ga.in 1966 He was married to Jessie Alford. They had John A, Jack, Mildred, and Louise. They all grew up in the Cove., I think. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks...........CindyS
