Research: "TIMERSCOMBE, a parish in the hundred of Carhampton, county Somerset, 2.5 miles S.W. of Dunster, its post town and 5.5 S. of Minehead. The village is situated in a valley, and is traversed by the turnpike road from Dunster to Dulverton. The subsoil consists of red sandstone and limestone, which are quarried. There are two chalybeate springs. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value 170 pounds, in the patronage of the bishop.
The church, dedicated to St. Michael and All Angels, is old, with a tower rebuilt in 1714, at the expense of Richard Elsworth, Esq., containing a clock and five bells. The interior contains a carved screen and some stained-glass windows. The register dates from 1656. The parochial charities produce about 197 pounds per annum, of which 187 pounds is the bequest of Richard Elsworth, left in 1714 for founding a school and two scholarships at Balliol College, Oxon, but the schoolhouse was not built till 1824. A revel is held on the Sunday prior to the 10th October." (1868)

Research: William, Emma & son William arrived in Hobart on the "Australasia" on 30th December, 1854. They went ashore on that day but officially desembarked on 2nd January, 1855. Frank , Alfred and Alice were born in Tasmania, Frederick was born in Woolloomooloo. The family came to Sydney, NSW c 1867according to death certificate

father and mother - see detail under his father's heading.

Notes: Arthur Ewart was admitted to Waterfall State Sanatorium for Tuberculosis on 8 Dec 1919. His status was shown as single as he had been divorced 5 years earlier. On admission it was noted that 'Mr. Callaway had suffered Pneumonic Flu six months previously.' He was 8 stone 3lbs.

Research: As at 1914 the Waterfall State Sanatorium was the principal hospital in the State for the treatment of consumptives and contained 370 beds.
At this time the name Hospital for Consumptives was changed , the new name being considered more appropriate to described the institution's function. The word 'sanatorium' had fewer negative connotations than 'consumptives - a word too often associated with a lingering death. There were graduated walks around the gardens, from winding paths to steep inclines and ultimately patients would work with pick in the gardens to build up strength.
In 1919 Waterfakk the largest sanatorium in NSW and accommodated 788 patients (565 males and 223 females).
Mr. Palmer, the Superintendant, reported in 1918:
"There are three types of consumptives, the hopeful cases likely to improve, the chronic case that cannot improve though they may live for years, and the advanced case that will soon die...Only the case likely to improve should be dealt with in sanatoria. Except for providing food and shelter a sanatorium offers the last two types of cases nothing, and the presence of these cases, almost eliminates the chance of recovery for the favourable cases."
Arthur died 23 days after being admitted.

In 1918 Thomas Boyle and Arthur Callaway were still at their respective addresses, Lily is not listed. We therefore assume that this must be the year she left Australia. Oral history says she went with an American seaman - she married twice and lived in America for the rest of her life. Name at her death was BRADBURY husband was William.
Her daughter Alma accompanied her, son William remained in Australia living with his Boyle grandparents.
