Volume II  No. 9

FROM  BULLETIN  BILL

I am finding it rather difficult writing this month's Bulletin. CFA business seems to pale in comparison to the horrific events of September 11 and the unfolding War on Terrorism. It was hoped to have for you, "A Message from the President", but unfortunately it is impossible on such short notice. However, Pres. Victoria Jennings does want you to know that the Callaway Family Association's 26th Annual Meeting will be going ahead as scheduled, October 11 - 14, 2001, in Richmond, Virginia. Some of you may be driving instead of flying, so it is hoped that many of you within driving distance of Richmond will make the attempt to attend all, or even part, of this important meeting. Deadlines for registering have been advanced.

By now, the "Three Ladies" of the England Research Team will have completed their 5th annual mission and will be back safe and sound in their respective homes in the US. A full report should be forthcoming for the next Bulletin. It was my great pleasure to meet up with Sherrill Williams, Pat Schnurr & Cary Moore in Taunton, Somerset at the County Records Office from September 12 to 14. What an incredible job they are doing for CFA! Evening meetings were also arranged with two Somerset Calla/oway researchers, named Dick Kingswell of Watchet and Ken Calloway of Taunton. They both have done an enormous amount of work tracing our ancestors in England, and they are only too willing to share their findings with us. Dick is currently a member of CFA and, hopefully, Ken will join soon.
There were many highlights to my all-too-short trip to England (Sept. 11 - 25), but the most exciting event was the meeting of September 23 in Richmond-on-Thames. It took place at the Pitcher and Piano Pub, right next to the Richmond Bridge, the locale having been well-chosen by Peter Callaway (son of Dr. Bruce Callaway of Australia). As you can no doubt guess, this was billed as an "international" meeting with representatives from the USA (Sherrill, Pat and Cary), Australia (Peter and his wife Kris, and Bill Kellaway Piper - all of whom happen to be working in England at the present time), New Zealand (Warwick and Di Kellaway who were vacationing in England at the time), England (Brian Kelway Willoughby) and Canada (myself). Bill Piper has put together a short report of this meeting, together with a number of photos taken by him and Peter. You can view this by going to
http://members.tripod.co.uk/dreycott/richmond.htm . Enjoy! A number of you (Omar Callaway, Ben Callaway, & Martha House) have forwarded interesting messages dealing with the Sept. 11 disaster. Clive Callaway of B.C., wishes to send his condolences to our US "family". One attachment, from Russ and Heide Callaway, called "Take the Time" is very touching, and I will forward it to you after sending this Bulletin. My CFA Address Book is now back in shape, and currently we have 317 paid-up e-mailers. If any of you did not receive Bulletin #8, you can find it on the CFA web site at www.callawayfamily.org .
Sorry for the short Bulletin, but the next one should be better, with all the news from the Annual Meeting. Until then, Cheers, Bill Callaway, CFANET Coordinator Parksville, B.C., Canada
