BULLETIN  BILL'S  BLURB
This Bulletin will be shorter than usual . Call it the end of summer doldrums, or just plain lack of material this month. However, we have several interesting items to give you. First of all, there are two items  from our President, Pat Schnurr - one dealing with Barton St. David Church in Somerset, England; and the other telling us about a second printing of the Callaway Cookbook. Then there will be an article by Dr. Bruce Callaway of Sydney, Australia. It is called : "So You Are Not Descended From Peter Or Joseph". Next you will find a little plug for the Annual Meeting, taking place in Baltimore, MD, October 10 - 13, 2002. And finally, we have a very short survey for you to participate in, concerning the use of credit cards to make payments to CFA for membership renewals. Please take a few seconds to reply. Hope you're enjoying the Labor Day weekend!

FROM  THE  PRESIDENT  - Pat Schnurr
Last year, we (Pat, Sherrill Williams and Cary Moore) visited Barton St. David Church, Somerset, England and found the altar table given by William Kellway, Church Warden from 1601 - 1611. We had recently discovered and gotten a copy of his will, as well as that of his son, Richard. We got a picture of the table, and it was shown at the CFA Annual Meeting in Richmond  in 2001. This was mentioned in our bulletin and on the CFA website. I was surprised to see a query recently from a gentleman on the web saying that his wife is currently the Senior Church Warden of Barton St. David Church and they would like a copy of the will for their church records. Sherrill sent him the copy of the will, and I sent him four generations of this family. He is sending us an aerial picture of the church and the surrounding yard, and tells us that the house to the left of the church is where they live. Amazing that we are in the position of having this information to give them. It goes to show that people are searching our website,
www.callawayfamily.org.

Several years ago, longtime member Avola Callaway brought Callaway Cookbooks to Callaway Gardens and sold them at our Annual Meeting. It was a beautiful hardback book and contained not only delectable recipes from CFA members but also beautiful pictures of the many Callaway homes still standing in Eastern Georgia. This book has been completely sold out and is now in a second printing. This time the book is a spiral-bound book, same colors, but not hardback. They sell for $18.00 plus postage, or five for $15.00 each. Avola is sending me a copy, which I will bring to the Baltimore Annual Meeting. Her address is: Avola W. Callaway, 773 Callaway Road, Rayle, GA  30660. Anyone interested can contact her directly. Proceeds from the sale of these books go toward the maintenance of the Callaway homes, not to the CFA.

SO YOU ARE NOT DESCENDED FROM PETER OR JOSEPH  by Dr. Bruce Callaway
The CFA Genealogists and researchers are not just there for these important, but definitely not exclusive, branches. This must be emphasized following the comments of some of our members who have expressed the view that they sometimes feel like "second class" citizens because they do not fit into these two lines.

Any K or C, with their well known variants, is welcome to our extensive archives and the assistance of our genealogists and researchers. In fact, for some time, it has been a matter of great satisfaction that we have been able to help so many families trace and fill gaps, and put families in contact with others of the same spelling, both in the U.S. and around the world. Sometimes we have had to say, "Can't help for the present", but as our research is on-going, these requests are not ignored but filed away carefully for any future reference that may be found.

Migration for our Family did not begin or end with the 17th century. In fact, if current research proves true, (and it is very close to be shown so) your ancestors were very much on the move not only in recent times, but at least 900 years ago.

We have links for and between all those names which appear on the mastheads of the Journal, and whilst there are inevitably many gaps yet to be filled, we realize that nowadays we protect the particular spelling of "our" name for "our" family with something akin to zeal. (My dear old Dad used to become most upset when someone tried to spell his name with an "O"!) Many of our ancestors were not blessed with the educational opportunities available in modern times, therefore having to rely on others to record their names. Consequently, just how your accent happened to be at the time, was how your ancestor was recorded into history!

Again, it has been most satisfying to have helped from our resources those who can only record one or two generations of their Family. Each generation is precious, and many hold the most precious of stories, which we invite you to share with us. This may be done through the pages of our Bulletin, or by e-mail to the Editors or our Genealogists.

THE CALLAWAY FAMILY ASSOCIATION 27TH ANNUAL MEETING
OCTOBER  10 - 13,  2002
THE  SHERATON  INTERNATIONAL  HOTEL
BALTIMORE  WASHINGTON  INTERNATIONAL  AIRPORT BALTIMORE,  MARYLAND
THEME:  "THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER"

You will have received your registration package from Victor Calloway, Meeting Director. As he so thoughtfully told us, Baltimore was founded in 1729, and during the War of 1812 it was attacked, unsuccessfully, by the British. Francis Scott Key wrote "The Star Spangled Banner" while watching the bombardment from a warship anchored in Baltimore Harbor.

Baltimore, Maryland is not only a great American city, but Baltimore is unique. The historic tour that Victor has arranged for Friday, October 11 will, by itself, make your trip to this city very worthwhile. Then add the camaraderie of mingling for 3 or 4 days with all the other members of CFA who will be attending the meeting, and you have a winning combination. And that doesn't even take into account all the interesting information that will be presented by various Board members at the Annual Business Meeting on Saturday. In the afternoon there will be a Genealogical Workshop, including a special presentation by Dr. Bruce Callaway.

All the special meals will be enticing, too - the Thursday evening Buffet, the "Commodore's Lunch" on the Friday tour, the Buffet Lunch with guest speaker on Saturday noon, and climaxing with the final Buffet Dinner on Saturday night.

So, you won't want to miss this Annual Meeting. If you've never attended one before, make Baltimore the one for you to be a "first-timer". You won't regret it! Reserve your hotel room now, and send your Registration Form to Victor Calloway, 236 Beacon St,. Boston, MA  02116. See you there!
