THE CALLAWAY FAMILY ASSOCIATION Volume III No. 7 F LORIDA CFA PICNIC submitted by Elizabeth GraingerThe first Florida Picnic was held June 15, 2002 at Fort
Christmas. Forty-seven members turned up for the picnic on a
surprisingly cool and rainless day. Pat Schnurr's choice for the
site was inspired. A wonderful rural setting with the replica of
the fort originally built in 1837. There were artifacts, clothing
and uniforms of the time in the museum. Also some depressing
videos of the inhumanity of the white man to the Seminoles.
After lunch, Pat (who always manages to lace facts with
humor) gave a report on the latest Callaway research that she,
Sherrill Williams and Cary Moore carried out in England last year.
After which, the members introduced themselves and listed their
lines of descent from their original Callaway ancestor. Each
family got a couple of the CFA mugs, the CFA brochures were handed
out, and we talked and talked. One family of four had four
generations. Another family had twin boys, 4 years old.
A highlight was the appearance of a large, black snake
which was promptly escorted back to the woods for his safety, and
ours. With promises to meet again next year, the meeting ended at
3 pm.

English Origins have just put up the 1750-1800 PCC Wills

THE
CALLAWAY JOURNAL 2002
Editor Ben Callaway advises us that this year's Journal
"will be out in July". Ben has put the finishing touches on his
end of the Journal, and it is now in the hands of the printer.
Putting out a Journal each and every year for the last 26 years
has been a massive undertaking for Ben, and the Association is
truly indebted to him for his faithful service.

OF A FAMILY GENEALOGIST submitted by Lavinia Koot
Blessed are the great-grandmothers, who hoarded newspaper clippings and old letters, For they tell the story of their time.
Blessed are all grandfathers who filed every legal document, For they provided the proof.
Blessed are the grandmothers who preserved family Bibles and diaries, For they preserved our heritage. Blessed are fathers who elect officials that answer letters of inquiry, For some, they are the only link to the past.
Blessed are mothers who relate family traditions and legends to the family, For one of her children will surely remember.
Blessed are the relatives who fill in family sheets with extra data, To them we owe the family history. Blessed is any family whose members strive for the preservation of records, For theirs is a labour of love.
Blessed are the children who will never say, "Grandma, you have told that old story twice today."
Blessed are the computer operators, For surely they will eventually come up with a match.
CFA WEB SITE GUEST BOOK
Since the last Bulletin, the following people have signed
the Guest Book:
Five of these are members who probably were influenced by
the Survey results. The other 9 non-members just surfed in. Many
of their comments have to do with genealogical information -
either providing it, or requesting data about their ancestors.
Have a look at the Guest Book and see if anything applies to you.

The
Co-Editors would like to thank Elizabeth, Michael, Russ and
Lavinia for providing us with material for this issue of the
CFANET BULLETIN. Hopefully, more of you who offered to contribute
items will do so in the months to come. And we will try to
incorporate your many suggestions for improvement in the future.
Please send any comments, articles or suggestions to either Bill
or Bruce at the e-mail addresses below. Thank you.
