Volume II No. 6 BULLETIN BILL’S BLURB So much time has elapsed since Part 1 of May's
Bulletin, that this will be a combination of Part 2 and the June issue,
which will be early since I'll be away from May 29 to June 12. As you know, the CFA Board of Directors met in
Victoria, B.C., Canada on May 4 & 5. This was a very successful
meeting and some of the highlights will be mentioned below. One of the points discussed was privacy on the
Web. A Director, who was unable to attend the meeting, had expressed
concern about having very personal bios available to "one and
all" by being accessible on the CFA web site. It was therefore
decided to delete all Bulletins and to do away with the Bulletin
Archives. If you have visited
www.callawayfamily.org
recently, you will have noted the absence of Bulletins. Your comments
would be welcomed. I have compiled a CFA E-Mail List which gives
name, city and state, and e-mail address. It is on MS Word and can be
sorted alphabetically by surname or by state. The former will be
enclosed with the Callaway Journal 2001 as a 4 page insert, when mailed
to all members in early summer. In the meantime, though, I will attach
the list, sorted by state/country, so that you will have immediate
access to it. If you are not able to receive it in MS Word, just let me
know, and I will copy and paste it to an e-mail, which should work. The question of how to distribute the Bulletin to
CFA members without computers was discussed, and it was decided that at
renewal time next year, they would be invited to give the e-mail address
of a friend or relative who could easily print a copy of the Bulletin
and deliver or mail it.

"I am a descendant of Sarah
(Boone) Willcockson, sister of Daniel Boone. I live on the old William
T. & Frances (Callaway) Lamme farm. They are buried here as are
several of their children and grandchildren. I just wanted to say hello
to my Callaway cousins and let you all know that I am looking out after
the little family cemetery here."

14TH STATE / REGIONAL ACTIVITIES The TEXAS CALLAWAY PICNIC was held on Saturday, March 24, 2001 from 11:00 A.M. till 3:00 P.M. at Bastrop State Park, TX. Carole Romano reports that the weather was stormy - a black sky with off and on thunderstorms. She says that "Texans know not to worry about weather, as it is always 'too hot, too cold, too dry or too wet'." There were 21 Callaways present, including one CFA Director (Carole), the CFA Secretary (Judy Ostler) and the CFA Historian (Pamela Callaway). Many of the guests do not attend the annual CFA general meeting, but enjoy the visiting with "Texas Callaway Cousins". No report is available yet on the ARKANSAS PICNIC, but it was to have been held in late April. Hopefully, there will be a report for the next Bulletin. Carole still has no word on GEORGIA'S PICNIC plans, but she assumes it will be held in late summer as last year. BRITISH COLUMBIA MEETING
In conjunction with the Board of Directors
meeting in Victoria, B.C., a closing banquet was held at the Laurel
Point Inn on Saturday, May 5, to which all CFA members from British
Columbia were invited. Would you believe that all but one of the eleven
B.C. members attended the reception and dinner. They were: We had as a guest after-dinner speaker, Sherry Irvine, a well known genealogist from Victoria, B.C., who spoke on "The Commonwealth Gap, 1641 to 1660: What's Your Perspective?" She has written three genealogy books, one of which is "Your English Ancestry: A Guide for North Americans". From June 10 - 15, 2001, Sherry will be teaching a course on "Researching English Roots Through Five Centuries" at Samford University, Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research, in Birmingham, AL, after which she will be leading a British Study Tour to London and Edinburgh from June 29 to July 21. Sherry also facilitates a 10-week, online Family History seminar for Norwich University, VT. It is called "Trying Times: The British Isles in the 1600s - History, Records, Research". Stacey Gutierrez, a brand new member of CFA, wrote me a note about the event which deserves publishing. "Connie and I had a wonderful time at the CFA dinner Saturday night. The people were exceptionally friendly and embracing. I didn't feel like a stranger at all, despite the fact I had never met anyone there, and had only spoken and e-mailed with you and Kermit. I think it's a real tribute to an organization that is so inclusive - especially an organization that has members with 25 years of continuity. You know, it could have been a closed and stuffy group of people. The meal might have been insipid, and the after-dinner speaker long-winded and boring. But just the opposite occurred (happily!): the folks were friendly and interesting, the dinner and ambience delightful, and Sherry Irvine's address was both interesting and inspiring. And I feel honored to have been so warmly welcomed into the CFA by many Board members, and especially by our dynamic president, Victoria. Thanks again for inviting us. It was well worth the trip to Victoria." It was a great pleasure to have had the opportunity to host the first-ever Board of Director's meeting outside the US of A. Victoria, B.C. was a perfect setting and the weather cooperated nicely. Many of the Board members were able to extend their stay in this beautiful province, thus enabling them to do some sightseeing after the day and a half of weighty deliberations. Several important reports will be transmitted to you as soon as the Minutes are approved by the Board. These include: CFA CD DATA PROJECT - Progress Report, by Technologist Russ Callaway, Report of CFA Genealogist, by Sherrill Williams.
