be lengthy. It could be some "Callaway" news, a family story, a

Annual Texas Callaway Picnic is Coming Up Hi Everyone: I have made reservations for this year's Texas Callaway Picnic on March 24. This date is 2 weeks before Easter. The place is the LMRA park in southwest Fort Worth (same as last year). I am hoping for a good turnout. I have a slide show (on my PC) of all of the picnics which I have attended. I also will have a slide show of the conventions which I have attended. On a separate note, I was watching a soccer game from Eredivise (the Dutch league) Setanta Sports (channel 615 on your DirecTV receiver) between PSV and Utrecht a week or so ago. To my surprise, Utrecht has a soccer player named Tom Caluwe which the English announcers pronounced just like Callaway. Tom was born in Belgium. Just a few days before, I was wondering if the reason that we have been unable to associate Joseph Callaway with anyone living in England is that we are not looking in the correct country. While the presence of a Dutch citizen whose name sounds like Callaway proves nothing at all about our mysterious Joseph, perhaps it would be a good idea to look for Joseph in Holland. Regards, Welcome to New Members Everyone please welcome a new
International CFA Member. Her name is Margaret (Meg) De Manincor,
and she lives in Mona Vale, New South Wales, Australia. We are
so glad to have her as a new member of our group. Meg plans an
extended trip to the states this year, and who knows, she may
meet some of us face to face. Wouldn't that be great? If you'd
like to send her a welcome message, her email address is: Another Random Act of Kindness In response to Query # 399 last month, our own CFA Member, Jane Callaway, now has some precious photos of her mother and other family members. Douglas Tackett posted the query last month in our newsletter which said he had purchased some old photos and was trying to locate the family to which they belonged. These photos were of Jane's family. Yet again we see that random acts of kindness are a recurring thing in genealogy. Below is Douglas' response when he discovered he had located the owner of the photos. I was in a local junk shop here in Clarksville Tn. There was a box on the floor full of pictures and letters from a Family by the name of Randle. Some of them were from late 1800s to early 1900. Photos were marked from a town called Rensslaer Indiana. Most of the names were Randle. There were a few other names as well. There was a book that had been put together in 1964 from a man and woman named Gus and Jane Callaway. They were Christmas photos. I bought the book and put the information on a Callaway family site. Almost everyday for a month I would stop by and buy a few more pictures and was trying to find the Randle family. One day the woman at the shop told me I needed to just buy them all. She gave me a price and I gave in and bought them all. After I got home and started hunting for names or any info, I started trying to locate the Randles with not much luck. One day I called a man in Rensslaer, but he never returned my call. I finally gave up and started putting the pictures of the homes on ebay. I listed them under Rensslear, Ind. hoping someone would buy them and I could get some of the money I spent back. Then in the middle of the night, you wrote me and told me you may know the Callaway family. After you had her email me I talked with her and bingo that was her and her husband and children. I ask her what her mother's name was hoping in the back of my mind that maybe just maybe she was related to the Randle's. Once she told me her mother's name I ask her if she had any photos of her mother and she said some. After we talked and hung up I was shocked I had a box full of her family photos. I had photos that had her mother's name on them from 3 months old which would have been late 1800s til late 1940s or so. There was even a picture of her mother's grave. There were letters in the box from her grandfather, several pictures of her grandparents at different ages. I know that with your help we were able to return the photos to the immediate family. Jane wrote me tonight and was thrilled to death. Life is short and we all need to take a minute to reach out to others if and when we can. So often in life it is the small things that we remember and the things we cherish the most. I again thank you and the Callaway family for putting the family info on the net so that others can see and read about your family. If it had not been for your web site and your help, the Randle family photos would have been lost forever. Douglas Keith Tackett

Response to Query # 400 (Jan
2007 Newsletter)
Hi Winnie and Donna,
My research shows Elizabeth
Talbot married in Wilkes Co., GA January 7, 1822 Hardin
Reynolds. Elizabeth Talbot was the daughter of Joseph Hale
"Joe" Talbot (b. Abt. 1778 in Virginia - d. February 15,
1858 in Wilkes Co., GA), son of Matthew Talbot III (b. 1756
Bedford Co., VA - 1804 Davidson Co., TN and Lucy Bailey (b.
1760 Virginia - d. in Morgan Co., GA), and Bethany
Callaway. Joe Talbot is buried in an unmarked grave in the
Callaway Family Cemetery near Rayle, Wilkes Co., GA.
Elizabeth Talbot Reynolds secondly married in Wilkes Co., GA
March 6, 1827 Nathan Brazell (b. 1798 North Carolina - bef.
1860 Alabama). He was then the widower of Sarah Adams who
he had married in Wilkes Co., GA February 25, 1823.
Elizabeth Talbot's mother,
Bethany Callaway (b. January 7, 1780 in Onslow Co., NC - d.
May 16, 1871 in Chambers Co., AL), was the daughter of John
Callaway (b. 1746 Onslow Co., NC - d. July 10, 1821 Wilkes
Co., GA) and Bethany Arnold (1746 - July 10, 1844 Wilkes
Co., GA). She is buried at County Line Baptist Church
Cemetery, near Dudleyville, Chambers Co., AL.
Talbot Family History includes
the following:
Matthew (III) - 1756 - 1804 on Matthew (II) Talbot Page
@http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~fww64/mt_II.html by Milton W. Talbot, Jr., MD and Farris W. Womack on The Descendants of Matthew (I) Talbot, Gentleman Webpage, @http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~fww64/talbot_I.html
Matthew (III) accompanied his parents to the Watauga
Settlement in the mid 1770's and there he grew to adulthood.
Diligent search of the records fails to establish much about
his early years but it does seem certain that he is the
Matthew who was "at the retaking of Augusta" rather than his
father. In fact, his father, more than likely distinguished
himself by his service in the Patriotic Corp rather than as
a member of a military unit.
The oldest child of Matthew (III) and Lucy Bailey Talbot was Joseph Hale Talbot. Joseph Hale Talbot married Bethany Callaway in 1797 in Wilkes County, Georgia. There were eleven children from this marriage. Two of those children, John R. and Isiah T., left Georgia sometime around the Civil War and settled in Chambers County, Alabama where they became active members of the community and very active members of the County Line Baptist Church. The serious Talbot student will recall that Green Berry Talbot, among others, had organized the County Line Baptist Church in 1835. So, a half-century later Green Berry's 1st cousins, once removed, settled in the same place and became leaders of the Church. One of the most famous of the "Talbot" sons descended from Matthew (III) was Claude Denson Pepper who grew up in Dudleyville, Alabama and was a member of the County Line Baptist Church. Claude Pepper became a Senator and a United States Congressman from Florida but he never forgot the importance of those tender years at Dudleyville and the enormous influence the County Line Baptist Church had on his life. A more complete story of his life can be found by clicking on his link on the Talbot web site. ___ The Last Will and Testament of Matthew Talbot (III) @http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~fww64/MatthewIII_Will.html from: The Descendants of Matthew (I) Talbot, Gentleman Webpage by Ann Talbot Brandon Womack and Farris Wade Womack (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~fww64/talbot_I.html).

Query # 401 Submitter - Tempie West email - twest at roby.esc14.net
Hi, Query # 402 My mom is 102 years old. She is from Newfoundland She recalls an old boyfriend, Max Calloway, who attended Dalhousie Univ. She believes he came to the U.S. and became a lawyer. Any info?
Mom lived in Bonne
Bay Nfld. She mentioned Mr. (Max) Calloway (Kelloway?)
was a teacher there for a while, then left to attend
Dalhousie U. (in Halifax Nova Scotia) and eventually
became a lawyer. She believes he came to the states
after that.
Mom was born in
1904, so I assume he was about the same age.
Apparently they corresponded for several years.
She is talking
quite a bit about her youth these days, and she was
wondering what had become of him.
Told her I'd try to
find out.

Subject - Mamie Calloway TUCKER, 1874-1965 Submitter - Bob Daniel, Callaway, FL email - roloda at knology.net Hi, Donna, In 1860, there is a John M. CALLAWAY in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, 25, a merchant, 200 5,000 born in Georgia, possibly too young to be this John Francis Marion CALLAWAY who is 56 in 1880? John M. is living as head of household with W. W. NORRIS, 21, a clerk, and A. W. ROBISON, 17, a clerk. (1860: Series: M653 Roll: 133 Page: 695) John Francis Marion CALLAWAY, son of John CALLAWAY and Margaret TURNER, married Louisa Daniell POSEY sometime between 1850, when she is named in the census of Baldwin County as wife of Henry POSEY with two children, and before 1880, when she and John Francis Marion have six children and Louisa's sister, Anabelle, living in their home. If Louiza is the mother of all these children, they were married before 1862. The John F. M. CALLAWAY family has only been
found in the 1880 census. Where were these folks
in 1860 and 70? DANIEL Anabella W F 42 Sister in Law S Seamstress GA GA GA; STUBBS Lewis B M 17 Servant S Farm Laborer GA GA GA. (Note: Anabella DANIEL is Louisa's sister.) The cemetery index for the Black Springs Baptist Churchyard, Baldwin County, lists: 523 Louisa C. Daniell Calloway b 1831 Insc: w/o John F. Calloway 524 John F. Calloway (No dates given. RLD) SPECULATION: "Mamie Calloway TUCKER 1874 1965" buried in Memory Hill Cemetery is Mary CALLAWAY, born 1874, a daughter of John Francis Marion CALLAWAY and Louisa Constanza DANIELL of Baldwin County, Georgia. She is named with her parents in the 1880 census of Baldwin County. Louisa was a daughter of Jesse DANIELL and Mary Ann TUCKER. Mary Ann was a sister to Harper TUCKER, father of Joseph H. TUCKER. Joseph was the father of Harper TUCKER who married "Mamie CALLOWAY." Curiously too, the graves of John and Louisa are indexed as CALLOWAY. Considering the known family ties, the dates and places involved, and that "Mamie" is a nickname for Mary, it is possible that she is the daughter of John F. M. and Louisa C. DANIELL. 1900 U.S. Census, Georgia, Baldwin County,

North Jefferson Street "Mamie Calloway TUCKER" is buried in Memory Hill Cemetery, Baldwin County, Georgia. In the family lot, as indexed, are: 1 Croley Tucker, Sr. 1900 1987 (Son of Harper
and Mamie) Note: Comments in parentheses are mine. If the CALLAWAY researchers can help shed some more light on this family or correct any misconception I may have here, it would be most appreciated. Query # 404 Dear Donna:
I am
looking for information on James Calloway B.
about 1807 in Virginia or Kentucky, who
married Sarah Pack in Lawrence County in
1830. Need to find a death date for James
Calloway or find out what happened to him
because:
I
connect to James Boyd who married a Sarah
Pack abt. 1840. In the Lawrence Co. Census
in 1850 it shows these Calloway children
with the 2 younger girls living with James
Boyd and Sarah Pack:
1)
Harvey Calloway b. abt. 1831 living with Samual Murry in 1850 Law. Co. (lived close
to the Boyd Family)
1860
Law. Co. Census shows he is a farm hand
living with William Pigg
He might
have married Nov. 1867 Rachel Lewis in
Lawrence Co. I would like to find out if
they had children and where they died.
2) Cornelius "Neal" Calloway b. abt. 1835 was
living with Hugh Boyd in 1850 Law. Co. (Hugh may have been a son of James Boyd
and a previous wife prior to Sarah Pack)
"Neal married Elisabeth Farlon in 1860 in
Law. County and was divorced in the 1870
Census of Law. Co." Lived with Sarah Boyd
and Edward Boyd in 1880 Law. Census and was
listed as BROTHER to head of home. Edward
was living with his mother Sarah Boyd. *
This is the main tip that makes me think
that the Callaway children were children of
Sarah and James Calloway, but the children
could have been family members from either
James Boyd or Sarah Pack's family. Perhaps
a sister's children?
3)
Elijah " Washington" Calloway b. abt. 1836
and lived with Archibald Borders in 1850 and
married Mary A. Moore in 1860. I do not
know what happened to him.
4)
Elizabeth "Betsy" J. Calloway b. about 1838
was living with James Boyd and Sarah in 1850
Law. Co. Census and was a boarder with
Arthur and Ann Boarders in 1860 and married
Richard Hall in 1869. I do not know what
happened to her.
5)
Julina "Indiana" Calloway b. abt. 1839 lived
with James Boyd and Sarah in 1850 and
married Wesley Wellman in 1859 and had two
children that I am aware of 1) Margaret b.
abt 1860 and 2) Alice b.?
Indiana
then married Jonathon McCord or McCloud.
She was 30 and he was 70 at the time.
Several people have contacted me on this
line, needing information, but this is all I
have.
In
conclusion, my main question is who are the
parents of these children, and whatever
happened to them?
Query # 405 I am researching the FAREWELL family, and have a copy of the Kellaway Pedigree to be found in the Dorchester Museum. Do you have any further information on them?
Query # 406 I am not sure where you are located, but I will be traveling to America, England & parts of Europe this year, & perhaps could make personal contact. Query # 407 Hi,
My family name is Callaway. Descended from William W.
Callaway born Jan 24, 1776 birthplace unknown. Died Feb
5, 1860 Place unknown. I know he was in Georgia in abt
1817 because he had a son, Samuel D. Callaway born in Ga
abt 1817, died 1877. I'm trying to find out if my line
connects to yours. :) I can give you more information
if you'd like but this is the earliest ancestor I have
record of. I'm at a standstill in my research. I've
hit a wall...
Thanks for any information you might have concerning
either or both of theses ancestors. My family moved
from Georgia to Texas and is in Texas now.
